Sloped yards are one of those problems that homeowners just learn to live with. The grade makes the space hard to use, hard to maintain, and honestly kind of unsafe to walk on. This was exactly that kind of situation - a steep drop that needed a real fix, not just a band-aid.

What we built here is a natural boulder wall paired with a clean set of concrete steps cut right into the slope. The boulders are heavy, well-set, and positioned to hold that grade without going anywhere. That's the whole point of a boulder wall - it works with the land instead of fighting it. No thin blocks, no cheap fill. Just solid material doing what it's supposed to do.

The steps connect the upper and lower areas of the yard in a way that's actually functional. Wide treads, consistent rise, and a layout that feels natural to walk. When a slope has good steps, you stop avoiding that part of your yard and start using it. That shift matters more than people expect.

This kind of hardscape work is the foundation - literally - for everything else that comes after. Once the grade is controlled and access is established, you can actually build on top of it. A patio, a seating area, plantings, lighting - all of it becomes possible when the bones are right. We treat every slope project as a long-term build, not a quick fix.

Getting the grade right from the start saves a lot of headaches down the road. Erosion, drainage problems, and unstable ground are all things that show up later when the groundwork isn't done properly. We take that part seriously on every job.
